I had no idea zebras were so numerous. Apparently a herd of some 600,000 zebras precede the famous July wildebeest migration into Maasai Mara. The zebras cut down the tall grasses and the wildebeest follow up with the shorter grasses and plants. We were just beginning to see the first waves of zebras. On a few occasions we passed through an area with zebras as far as the eye could see. Hundreds and hundreds in every direction.

Man, they were so pretty. Like a fingerprint, they all had subtly different markings. Zebras exist on the same plain as giraffes for me in terms of childhood-picturebookness. I know they are real, but it was still made me giddy every time they came into view.
