Lion cubs at dawn

I already posted a series of lion photos from our first day at Maasai Mara (in a stupor after devouring a buffalo), but we were lucky enough to stumble upon several prides of lions over the following days, which gave us several opportunities to observe (and of course photograph!) them in different contexts.

On our third day we got up at 5:30 for a sunrise game drive, and right off the bat we ran into a fairly large pride. The sun was just above the horizon, the light was gorgeous, and I captured these shots of the lion cubs doing what they do best: being cute.

Justin, are you keeping a map of your travels? The map link at top doesn’t seem to have your recent stops noted — have you been forgetting to use your map plugin? I want to send my brother a few of your past posts, and want to search by place.

The lighting is just phenomenal. Absolutely stunning.

Anton, yep, I’ve got a stylized map of our trip that I’ve been working on, but I’m waiting to post it when we come “full circle” (presumably when we make it back to SF). Yeah I need to take down that map link at the top, or seriously rethink it. It’s too much work to associate a longitude and latitude with every post. As far as associating “places” with all of my posts…I need to come up with a new strategy. Perhaps tags?

Nick, thanks. The Maasai Mara safari (which was just an “add on” to our 19 day overland trip—currently writing you from Jinja, Uganda near the source of the Nile) turned out to be one of the most spectacular experiences of our entire trip.

Aaaw Justin, these pictures are just wonderful !!
I would make that last one as a poster !
