Vespa LX150

I tried on two occasions to record my scooter while I was zipping around the city, but the mic’s foam windscreen let too much wind noise through. That and the frequent stop-and-go city traffic made for a jarring listening experience. So in the interest of “white noise” over realism, I recorded a few minutes of my Vespa’s 4-stroke, 150cc engine just idling.

This is a fantastic idea! White noise/random noise can be the easiest to work with.

There’s a couple of albums around (I have heard snippets but can’t find them) that are recordings of a number of Pachinko parlours in Japan, which are horrendously noisy environments, with ball bearings clacking, sirens, bells, whistles etc. But amongst the racket it’s possible to hear a soothing pattern. It’s really bizarre.

Good work.

Who knows, maybe one day WNL will fund us enough to record and photograph all over the world. Your Pachinko suggestion reminds me of Vegas—the inside of a casino should definitely be on our list.

Glad you enjoyed.
