West Thumb Geyser Basin

Wednesday morning we left our tent cabin in Grand Teton and headed north into Yellowstone National Park. We didn’t know what route we were going to take through the park. We didn’t know where we were going to spend the night. All we knew was that we wanted to see some active geothermal features, so we stopped at the West Thumb Visitor Center to get oriented. Turns out there were some hot springs nearby on Yellowstone Lake, so we picked up some maps and headed to the springs.

Dang! Nice pictures!

Thanks. I think the last one is probably one of my favorites from the trip. But I’ve probably got like 2 or 3 more posts coming from Yellowstone alone, so I should probably reserve judgment.

BTW…that is Big Cone geyser, not Fishing Cone. Just FYI!! Fishing Cone is not that far to the right from Big Cone so you were close.

Fishing Cone is under water this time of year as Yellowstone Lake collects the snow melt from the mountains and Spring rains.

Perhaps you have a picture of it underwater?

Cheers…

Thanks for the catch, correction made! I knew I should have taken more pics that included the signs.
