How sad, but if you realize that most people leap to their death from the east side, then you probably can assume that they had come from San Francisco as opposed to Oakland – now what does that imply.

The Golden Gate bridge connects the city with the very uninhabited north bay headlands, not Oakland (which is connected to SF by the Bay Bridge).
I think on both sides you can travel in both directions, but the caption mentions that the west side is used for bicycle traffic, as opposed to pedestrian traffic, which probably accounts for the lower incidence of suicide.
