The liberals sided with the developers because of the potential benefit to the communities. They see the diplacement of the few as a relative inconsequence if it can benefit the entire population. This really goes in the face of republican/libertarian reading of property rights.

Fred is exactly right, this is entirely a liberal issue. Do you want highways? Do you want Subways? Do you want any kind of public good? Then you need to demolish some homes. Period. Now if Republican’s still acted like Republicans and not whoreson-douche bags, they would have called bloody murder. ah well, power corrupts as they say.

ok, i understand eminent domain in terms of repurposing private property for public use, but i’m pretty conservative when it comes to taking private property for private development. that smacks of awfulness.
