The long way to Yosemite

Got back to the city around midnight tonight, a little later than planned. Not a good time for street parking—but then is there ever a good time for street parking?

The title of this post pretty much sums up the theme of this weekend. Here’s a map to help visualize it.

Labor Day weekend 2006 map

I hope to have some pictures posted in the coming days, but first, sleep.

Update: I’ve finally finished chronicling our Labor Day weekend roadtrip around Northern California. Here it is in 5 parts.

Part I: To Santa Cruz and beyond
Part II: Towards Big Sur via Pebble Beach
Part III: Driving down the Big Sur coast
Part IV: We did not tour Hearst Castle
Part V: Yosemite, finally!

How long did it take you from Big Sur to Yosemite? I am planning a similiar circle trip but incorporating Napa to Big Sur then Yosemite…finishing back in San Francisco. Also wondering if I should detour off to Kings Canyon on way to Yosemite. We will be on a motorcycle in April.

We left Morro Bay sometime after lunch (after spending the night near San Simeon), and arrived in Oakhurst outside Yosemite around dusk. Google Maps says it should take 4 hours.

i just found your blog looking up california. i would say it is the most beautiful place in the USA. I would love to move there someday in the future. Thank you for posting your pictures.
