This cover of TIME magazine makes me sick

TIME magazine cover, glorifying the death of Abu Mousab al-ZarqawiI’m not even sure I can put into words why. Let me try.

It glorifies state-sanctioned assassination. It brushes aside democratic values like trial by jury. It treats the seriousness and complexity of Iraq like a video game. It suggests parallels between Zarqawi and Hitler. It offers no critique of the rationale (or lack thereof) for going to war in Iraq. It conveys nothing about this war’s devastating and ongoing effects.

In short, it panders to the smallest minded readers rather than challenging people to think more critically about the consequences of this country’s invasion and occupation of Iraq.

I agree completely Justin! When I saw it I was disgusted. Such militaristic nationalistic fascism! If you ever had any doubts that the media helped bring about this fascism in America here’s your proof.

The comments on the Huffington Post blog entry push me to the brink. “You Liberals did this!” and “You Conservatives did that!” I get so tired of the finger-pointing and sweeping generalizations.

Sometimes I wonder if there were a way to walk away from all this, who would do it? Would the men of the mind retire to Galt’s Valley and wait this out? Which one’s would come back, if any?

Exactly, HOW DARE the United States goverment eliminate this kind and dear man. He was a great example to us all, his charity work eclipsing even that of Bono and Bob Geldolf. Who will ever forget Al Qaeda aid, the concert? a man who will one day take his place alongside Martin Luther King as an example to us all.

Long live the rebels!! down with the Empire!!!
