dynamic dns

has anyone had any experience with the following dynamic dns providers?

the top three seem the most promising. i’m just thinking i want to register a single domain name (which seems to cost $15/year) combined with the ability to dynamically update the IP address associated with that domain (adds $25/year). does that seem right?

Domainsite.com for $7.77 domains.

If you want to register a TLD you won’t be able to do dynamic IP updates. It takes too long for the DNS updates to propagate. All the dynamic DNS providers work by providing you with a sub-domain on of their own domains (for instance, I have zeppox.ath.cx bu dyndns.org owns ath.cx).

If you want free DNS chack out zoneedit.com, if you just want a dynamic dns service I really like dyndns.org.

Also check out godaddy.com if you want to register a domain name.

jackson: really? all those places seem to suggest as soon as your IP changes (which in my experience happens rarely) the dynamic dns client will update the DNS record in their nameserver which the registrars point to. which seems to make sense in theory. but i suppose in reality people cache DNS records all over the place for performance which could effect propagation. i remember when boingboing got a new IP, i had to use the IP for the longest time because–it seemed–that roadrunner had cached their old one.

zoneedit.com are great! due to lack of dynamic ip clients or other that costs money i have created a dynamic ip dns client for zoneedit.com
you can grab it at http://cpdns.cellphoto.net

Jackson is incorrect. I use thatip.com and it allows for dynamic updates with my TLD.
