is information just entertainment?
i just flipped through the latest smithsonian magazine that arrived over the weekend. the only article i read to the end was one about people who hike around mountains looking for plane wreckage. everything else was almost like tv watching. unsubstantial.
perhaps i need to read something more challenging. i don’t mean difficult, i mean something that shakes me to my foundations. perhaps this why the hipster kids all read the new yorker.
but even constantly challenging can be repulsive if it’s predictable. like fashion. i’m not sure i’m such a big fan of magazines in general. though they often provide the best medium in which to express the state of the art in ideas and design, the magazine remains a part of the present-day forcefed unidirectional mass media culture.
a bunch of folks (well, 3) have been hitting my blog recently searching for what i think is possibly the funniest, most creative comic strip ever. maybe you should check it out: all employing the principles of hopping.
