too cool toy
from an email i sent 11-Nov-2002:
ok i’ve got a bit of technology project challenge question.- i’ve got a laptop with 802.11b builtin and gobs of mp3s
- i’ve got roadrunner connected to a combination wireless ap/router
- i’ve got some generic computer speakersin order to play music on the speakers, i’ve got to stretch a cable across my living room floor to my laptop. this seems silly. i should be able to send an audio signal to my speakers over 802.11b.
there is no product on the market which will do this for me :(
but that’s actually cool, because then we get to build our own. so that’s the project. what’s the easiest way to get my speakers on my wireless network? (without having to set up fully fledged desktop running linux)
well, we never ended up building anything. but i was just catching up on my wired reading only to discover that there is a new company called cd3o that is selling EXACTLY what I describe above.
you plug their c300 model into your speakers (analog rca, digital coax, or digital optical) and then you stream your mp3s from your wireless laptop to the c300.
how cool is that? i’m so glad i thought of it. and if you purchase before 29-Aug-2003, the c300 has a $50 rebate.
