Whoa: [Rev. Ted Haggard] the leader of the 30 million-member National Association of Evangelicals, a vocal opponent of the drive for same-sex marriage, resigned Thursday after being accused of paying for sex with a man in monthly trysts over the past three years.

Update: Voice mails are from Haggard [asking for sex and drugs] says voice expert!

It’s always interesting to find out that some of the biggest opponents of an issue end up doing exactly what they hate and are fighting.

I was trying to think of this quote last night when mentioning this story to Stephanie. Hermann Hesse said “If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself.”
The lesson from this shouldn’t be that we all “hate on Haggard” because that’s just what he’d want us to do. The lesson should be for the New Life Church of Colorado Springs to determine whether it’s prudent or “Christian” to continue fighting against gay rights and marriage.
There was a very interesting This American Life radio show about Haggard and the New Life Church that I listened to on my trip from NC to CA: Pray.
