Just read through the “technical overview” of the upcoming Ubuntu Karmic Koala release, and the one thing that caught my eye is that “Empathy has replaced Pidgin as the default instant messaging client”. Wow, I wonder what happened there.

I know they started integrating IM status with the desktop more tightly in Jaunty and I also know they want to integrate things like IM status, facebook, email, and other events into the notification system even further so maybe this is part of that.

Oh right, I’m still on Hardy at work with Pidgin on all the time, but with Jaunty at home I almost never turn it on. The few times I do, the status integration always freaks me out. I think I may have disabled it. Ah progress.
