This is how I sound

This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m not sure why, as I’ve never been a big fan of podcasting, but I really like the idea of short, supplementary blog-embedded audio/video.

Recently I heard my voice in a video someone had taken and it both horrified and intrigued me. I’m just not used to hearing my own disembodied voice. It sounded deep and nasal and kind of goofy. But I wanted to hear more.

I sound like This American Life to myself. How hypnotic. Of course I sound different when I know I’m being recorded. More measured. Just recording this all alone on my 5 year old laptop with its built-in microphone made my heart beat loudly.

That is not actually how you sound. However! I do now think you should be on “This American Life.” If you like, I can surreptitiously record you talking. I do have a short recording you accidentally made when we were camping.

Damn, Stephanie said the same thing. Well of course this is how I sound reading my blog post for the 5th time, trying not to stumble over any words. I’ll have to try to get something more candid next time—or just get comfortable enough to get over the observer’s paradox.

you know, i really don’t think you sound like that either. It’s leaving something out of your lower register, like all the bass has been sucked out. You don’t actually sound that nasal.
