Totally annoying UPS policy, Newegg rocks

I recently ordered a hard drive from Newegg. It was supposed to arrive today.

Unfortunately I made a mistake when entering the shipping zip code for Sausalito (95965 instead of 94965), and the UPS tracking information says (as of 6:01 this morning):

POSTAL CODE LISTED FOR THE RECEIVER IS INCORRECT. UPS IS ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN CORRECT POSTAL CODE AND COMPLETE DELIVERY.;PACKAGE RETURNED TO SENDER

So I call UPS and they tell me, sorry, the package is already being sent back. So I call Newegg, and they very nicely call UPS for me and find out that it’s UPS’s policy not to change an address for a package in transit. Even when the package sender calls them?

So now my hard drive, which I was very much looking forward to having today is getting sent back.

My question for UPS: What is the point of putting the city and state on the address, if not to verify a zip code? Chances are, if the zip code is wrong, check the freakin’ city and state! Argh!

Well, the very understanding Newegg customer support person said that when they receive the returned package from UPS, my account will automatically be credited. So I should just reorder the hard drive, they’ll upgrade the shipping at no extra charge, it should ship today and arrive tomorrow.

And that’s just what they did, now I just have to sit tight for another day. Thank you Newegg.

I hate UPS. They pull that stuff all the time.

Hi. I am sorry for your difficulty. You were given erroneous information. UPS changes addresses all of the time at the request of the shipper AND the consignee. Drivers even have the option to correct an address in the system at the delivery point.

I see that this post is over a year old, and hope that you have and will have better experiences using UPS.

Sincerest regards from a dog-loving UPS driver.

upsgrl, thanks, but whether or not I got incorrect info, I still wasn’t able to have my package rerouted. Maybe that policy has changed, but I had no luck doing so a year ago. No worries, it’s not like I’m holding a grudge. Happy Holidays!

That’s okay, UPS is busy using new ways to irritate. They left a boxed leather chair about 1/8 mile from my house after tossing it over my gate…and the driver…he left as he I was about three feet from him; and yes he looked me in the eye before rushing into his truck. I had to carry the chair 1/8 a mile because UPS’s policy seems to be drive off as quickly as possible.
