Katie at Goat Rock

Today Katie and I took a trip around West County, first to the excellent Renga Arts in Occidental (cause she’d remembered it from an earlier post) and then out to Jenner, where the Russian River meets the Pacific. Here’s Katie standing near that very spot.

From that vantage the ocean was still quite a distance below us, so we swooped across the Russian River towards Goat Rock Beach, one of the Sonoma Coast State Beaches. At about this point we started pulling the car over whenever either of us spotted an excellent view. Which was about every 50 feet. Here’s a shot looking up the Russian River with the CA-1 bridge in the foreground.

The small dots on the green grass are indeed happy California cows.

We took a short hike around a large hill on the way through Goat Rock. Katie made sure to capture this thoroughly contemplative shot of me in the distance.

We saw an arched rock off the coast.

We saw some non-waterfowl wildlife (harbor seals).

And we spent a long time trying to balance on some surreal old railroad tracks suspended between two dunes.

The “thoroughly contemplative shot” looks like it would be an awesome album cover. What’s your band name and what genre of music do you play?

I think it would make a great album cover, but for some sort of new age music I’d probably not want to listen to.
