Yes. Most people, not just in the U.S. but worldwide, believe in some sort of God or spiritual entity. Of those who do not, a very small percentage will actually go so far as to say there is no God. So naturally, the atheists are going to be distrusted by everyone else. I am not making a value judgment on that in this post. I’m just saying that conducting a study on that is a bit like conducting a study on whether sugar causes cavities.
