chapel hill-carrboro food and drink
chapel hill and carrboro have so many good restaurants, many within walking distance. all too often i find myself walking down the street in my head to decide what to get for dinner. finally decided to write it all down. if it’s not on the list, either i don’t go there enough (la residence, elaine’s, vespa, queen of sheba), it’s brand new (penang, reservoir, jack spratt) or i think it sucks.
food
- The Loop pizzas, burgers, and one hella good oreo shake! (gotta drive to get there)
- Tandori Indian food, good buffet
- Hectors cheeseburger on pita, grilled chicken on pita, fries, tater tots (good late at night after drinking)
- Waffle Shoppe breakfast counter (only open til 3pm)
- Franklin Street Pizza & Pasta slice of pepperoni, penne w/pink basil sauce, garlic knots
- Bandidos gourmet quesadillas, shredded beef filling, free chips & salsa!
- Cosmic Cantina deluxe chicken nachos $1 off coupon in the indy
- Pepper’s Pizza great counter, chicken caesar salad, cheese slice with bacon and pork bbq, pesto slice, homemade stromboli with over 20 fillings!
- Top of the Hill fried chicken, microbrewed beer, view of Columbia and Franklin
- Sakura $3.50 vegetarian stir-fry and hibachi chicken stir-fry (order with side of vegetables!)
- Kurama eel sushi (on a circulating conveyor)
- I Love NY Pizza slice of pepperoni or meat lovers (so tasty at 2am after you’ve been drinkin’)
- Time-out it’s 3am, you’re drunk, and you need bbq with fried okra. god bless Time-out!
- 35 Chinese chinese food buffet, especially cheap at lunch (less than $3) if you take-out
- Buffalo Wild Wings (formerly BW3) buffalo wings: medium, hot, or teriyaki, potato wedges (now right below where i work!)
- Panera Bread french onion soup, chicken caesar salad
- Jimmy Johns gourmet subs, get the #1 (ham and cheese) with oil and vinegar, no mayo, great jalapeno chips
- Trilussa small, romantic, homey, italian food
- Patio Loco surprisingly inexpensive for lunch, very tasty chicken quesadillas, spicy salsa, fried casava root, guacamole, outdoor seating (chapel hill’s best kept secret)
- Mediterranean Deli grilled chicken, chicken souvlaki, baklava, hummus, falafel wrap!
- 411 West whole wheat pasta, fish, dill rolls
- Tallula’s turkish loveliness, excellent mezzes, hip after hours
- Lantern exotic Asian fusion cuisine, wine, swank bar in back
- Carolina Brewery sweet potato chips, good microbrewed beer
- India Palace lunch buffet on the weekends for cheap, chicken tikka masala
- Crook’s Corner shrimp and cheese grits, carolina bbq sampler
- Carrburritos tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, flour chips, carnitas (shredded pork), everything here is wonderful!
- Bandidos endless salsa and chips, above ground and located in carrboro
- Amante Gourmet Pizza super tasty cheese, best *local* pizza for delivery! (929-3330 in carrboro)
- Armadillo Grill cheap tacos, wings, small side of guacamole with chips
- Spotted Dog good bar, draft beer, cheese fries, vegan friendly
- Weaver Street Market salad bar, ciabatta bread, grilling and beer on the lawn on thursday nights during the summer, sunday morning brunches
- Acme local foods, local recipes, upscale
- Tylers draft beer, homestyle food, garlic fries, tuesday is pint night

- Hell beer, mixed drinks, underground, hipster/local cool (membership)
- Woody’s sports bar: beer, bar food, go during off hours
- Caribou Coffee tea, ambiance, people watching, often chilly
- West End Wine Bar & The Cellar wine, calm, swankish bar with pool downstairs, sit at the bar and drink $1-2 samples of everything
- Lantern Bar small, hip
- Orange County Social Club bar, smoky (membership)
