hillsborough hog day

6 years living in a place as a self-proclaimed bbq lover, and i just happen to hear about hillsborough’s yearly bbq festival recently.

we browsed hot sauces, custom motorcycles, fire engines, marshmallow shooters, cheese grater lamps, puppets, soda can mobiles, and more–finally making our way around to the extensive fair food area. it seemed like every major food group (funnel cakes, ice cream, blooming onions, and gyros) had two or three different ginormous booths to choose from.

and this was completely separate from the bbq, which consisted of all the pig that had been cooked to be judged, chopped up together and sold as $3 sandwiches or $6 a pound. off to the side was the vinegary eastern-style nc bbq sauce and slaw, which we liberally applied to our sandwiches. add to that a funnel cake and a super-sized lemonade and we were good to go.
