why am i trying so hard to use microsoft word intelligently!?
why can’t i start the automatic numbering for a caption (figure 1, figure 2) at an arbitrary number i decide?
why can’t i set the first page of my document to have a different top margin that all the rest of the pages? (see the infuriating V.1.d)
do i want the sections of my document to be numbered, thus making them chapters and invoking the wrath of V.1.d, but allowing my dumb as bricks captions to restart at 1 for each “chapter”?

Wow.. important decisions… so I assume that the paper’s all written then right? just wrangling with a few style issues… cause you’re practically done… right?

i’ve written two of four sections and my mind has felt pretty blank for most of the day. i’m curious to know what i’ll be handing into marchionini tomorrow…

How about a hot piping cup of “fuck you”?
That’s what I plan on offering my advisor if he gets his panties in a fucking wad over me handing in my draft late

El jefe, I find your attitude towards the Master’s paper refreshing. :-)

not that i’m even at this stage yet, but am i the only one who can’t even figure out that template? i applied it to an existing word document and all the styles got mushed in with the normal template styles and confused me, and when i tried to apply the sils_mp styles…they turned my text blue. that shit ain’t right!

As a representative of the secret cabal responsible for the template, let me assure everyone that blue text is ok.

ha! thanks, cabal! i worked it out the other day, actually. i’m writing mine in openoffice on a mac, so i was all jumping to the conclusion that there must be Something Wrong. but no. (well, except for the thing with the top margin on the first page, but i think my solution to that problem will have to be different.)
