the news (from cambodia)
[tuesday may 20 9:58am]
traditional news media has failed for me because it tries to appeal to too broad an audience. or maybe it’s just rotten because it doesn’t try to be interesting. (obviously if you’re here reading this or other blogs, then you partially understand)
in any case, boingboing continues to be the one “news source” i read regularly (even in cambodia), with links and pictures and articles culled by a group of digerati that I’ve yet to see duplicated anywhere else. stories/posts from boingboing that have captured my interest and imagination lately:
- Please don’t puree the goldfish: Art curators gone wild, on trial
- California town outlaws PATRIOT Act
- The why of WiFi is flower-boxen
- Why blogs kick the NYT’s ass on Google
- Website of “White cloth blocks electro-waves” Japanese sci/religious sect
current events: the week in review
WORLD! what is up??? since i left for cambodia on may 11 a lot of people have been blowing themselves and other people up:
- 12-May: Suicide bomb attacks kill 39 in Casablanca
- 12-May: 30 Killed, 150 Hurt in Chechnya Bomb Attack
- 14-May: Suicide bombing in Chechnya kills 14, injures 100
- 19-May: Israelis rocked by fifth suicide bomb in 2 days
also indonesia is going after separatist rebels in aceh, iraq is in dissolving into lawlessness (who’d've thunk it?), and bunia in the congo has erupted into fighting.
now is definitely an important time to be working for international health, development, and peace. the first step: voting georgewbush out of office.
